Matthew moved to Humboldt County in the Summer of 2017 to attend HSU as a Psychology student. He graduated in 2020 at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic but was fortunate to attend classes in person for his last semester. Being stuck inside immediately after graduating proved challenging but also opened the opportunity for Clay on Herbs to get its start. With ample time at home, ideas began to cultivate on how we could develop a business that enables creativity, utilizes local materials, and brings joy to people’s homes. As a burgeoning ceramicist, he saw the link between candles and ceramic pieces. Today, Matthew helps develop product lines, manages manufacturing, accounting, and sales.
